Signature Moments Book Unveiled at Council Meeting
Release Date: 9/2/2011
September 2, 2011
SANDY SPRINGS POLICE TO UNVEIL “SIGNATURE MOMENTS BOOK”
Sandy Springs Police will introduce the “Signature Moments” Book at the regular Sandy Springs City Council meeting September 6, 2011.
“Signature Moments” is a collection of 81 stories involving 85 Sandy Springs Police Department employees. The Signature Moment Project began in 2009, with Sergeant Melanie A.P. Rowand asking employees to describe their “signature moment.” She believes that police officers have moments that stay with them forever. These moments may involve a neighbor, a co-worker, a group of people, a son, a daughter, a friend, a child, an incident or event, and even someone who may have been arrested. Often times, this moment involves a victim of a crime. These particular instants are burned in memories forever and have profound effects. Sergeant Rowand describes these moments as “signature moments.”
She explained the definition of a “signature moment” to each police employee; each one of them interpreted the definition differently and told her their story. She then wrote their personal story based on what they explained. Their individual interpretation of a “signature moment” makes each story unique and gives a glimpse into their character.
All proceeds for the book will be donated to the Sandy Springs Police Department Benevolent Fund. To learn more about the Benevolent Fund, please log onto www.sandyspringspolice.org
The Sandy Springs City Council meeting will be held at Sandy Springs City Hall, 7840 Roswell Road, Building 500. The meeting begins at 6 p.m.
