Sandy Springs Police is a young police department. It began operation on July 1, 2006 with a start-up roster of 86 officers. SSPD now hosts over 120 sworn officers. The Sandy Springs Police recruitment team consisted of one sergeant and nine officers. In addition, there are four background investigators. In 2011, there were 224 background investigations conducted for police, Chatcomm 911 center, GCIC, Quartermaster, and city hall positions.
The recruitment team participated in a number of recruitment events and job fairs including DeKalb Technical College Public Safety Academy classes, Reinhardt Public Safety Academy classes, Kennesaw State University CJ Program, and the Ft. Stewart Military Career Fair.
