Homeland Security

The Homeland Security Unit encompasses the task of readiness and preparation in conjunction with the National Incident Management System (NIMS.)

The National Incident Management System provides a systematic, proactive approach to guide departments and agencies at all levels of government, nongovernmental organizations, and the private sector to work seamlessly to prevent, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate the effects of incidents, regardless of cause, size, location, or complexity, in order to reduce the loss of life and property and harm to the environment.

The commander of the Homeland Security Unit is Captain Bart Humble. Captain Humble joined the Sandy Springs Police following his retirement from the Marta Police Department where he held the rank of major. Prior to his career with Marta, Humble was a member of the DeKalb County Police Department.
