Sandy Springs Police Explorer Post 59 traveled to Gatlinburg, TN on February 3-5 to take part in competition involving dozens of police explorer teams from across the southeast. The kids competed in various scenarios from domestic violence response and burglary-in-progress calls to report writing. Explorer Sergeant Will Oppermann finished third out of 75 competitors in the report writing competition. Harrison Franklin (pictured) competed in the tactical obstacle course competition held at the Gatlinburg Conference Center.

The Cherokee Town & Country Club will be the site for the Sandy Springs Police Charity Invitational Golf Tournament to benefit the Sandy Springs Police Benevolent Fund. The tournament will take place on March 26, 2012. Registration begins at 8 am with a 10 am shotgun start and a 3 pm awards ceremony.

Sandy Springs Police have issued warrants for Saul Locke, Jr. for the crime of Robbery in connection with the January 7, 2012 incident in which Locke is suspected of assaulting a 90-year old woman, pushing her into the back seat of her car, while in the act of snatching her purse from her. The robbery took place at the CVS Store 6370 Powers Ferry Road at about 3:46 pm. Locke operates a 2011 Chevrolet Z-71 pickup truck with a Georgia tag: BUF-1755.
Locke is wanted for Robbery by Force and Reckless Driving.

On September 4, 2006, a criminal warrant for Murder was issued for Raimundo Barbosa Neto. He is wanted for the murder of his wife Ivone Vitorino Rios (11-16-1972). The incident occurred at 1620 Harbor Point Parkway in Sandy Springs, GA. Neto is believed to have fled the country and may possibly be in Brazil, his native country. He is listed on the Georgia Crime Information Computer as a Wanted Person. (Possibly in Brazil, Minas Gerais, Uberlan
He is also wanted by the FBI for Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution. Neto may be employed as a restaurant butcher.

The Marcom Awards, presented by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals, has named Sandy Springs Police "Signature Moments" book as a Gold Award winner in two categories. The association named Signature Moments as the Gold Award winner in the category of Marketing and Promotional Material and the category of Writing. The book, about SSPD employees, was published earlier this year and is a result of a three-year project by Sergeant Melanie Rowand.
Signature Moments was selected in the 2011 competition from over 6000 entries from competitors from the USA, Canada, as well as several other countries. Proceeds from Signature Moments goes to the Sandy Springs Police Benevolent Fund.
