Criminal Investigation Unit

When a case is assigned from the Uniform Division to the Detective Unit, the detective will contact the victim to acquire additional information. Many times a case has no witness or other evidence giving it any solvability. Those cases where there are no leads will go to an inactive status. Normally the victim or complainant will receive a letter notifying them of the inactive status. Inactive cases can be re-activated at any time if leads develop in the case.

First file a police report in the jurisdiction where you live. The case will be assigned to a detective who will contact you. Make several copies of your police report and notify the three credit reporting agencies which are Experian, Trans Union, and Equifax. Go to their websites and put a “fraud alert” under your name and personal information. If you are contacted by a collection agency, notify them you are a victim of identity theft and provide them with a copy of the report. Notify any credit card companies with which your account has been compromised and provide them with a copy of the report. Any questions concerning your case will be answered by the detective assigned to your case.

Please Note: If the person you want a restraining order against is a present or past spouse, person with whom you had children, parent or child, stepparent or stepchild, foster parent or foster child, person who use to live with you, person living with you, or person stalking you, and that person has committed a felony, battery, assault, or criminal trespass against you, you should first contact Victim Assistance on the 2nd floor of the Justice Center Building at 185 Central Avenue, Atlanta in order to receive a Temporary Protection Order. Safety Tips

Almost all thieves will pass on a car where they don't see anything to steal, so hiding your possessions or removing an item such as GPS or laptop will greatly reduce your chance of being selected as a victim.
|

There are several options available to you. First, have a neighbor pick up your mail and paper. Timers on interior lights and motion detection exterior lights are a good idea. Have the neighbors check your home periodically and if you're involved in Neighborhood Watch, make sure the block captain is aware that you are leaving. You need to show a valid driver's license, valid registration or title or bill of sale and a valid proof of insurance. The car can only be released to the registered owner unless that owner has Power of Attorney (notorized) allowing another to represent him or her. If the owner of the car is out of state, copies of the owner's driver's license, registration, bill of sale and notorized Power of Attorney will need to be faxed to 770-551-6906.
