The Criminal Investigations Unit of the Sandy Springs Police Department is comprised of a Unit commander, two Sergeants, and 11 detectives. Each detective is assigned cases based upon their general assignment, either person’s crimes or property crimes. The Commander of the Criminal Investigations Unit is Captain Benjie Cain.
Detectives assigned to person’s crimes investigate Robbery, Homicide, Domestic Violence, and White Collar crimes. Sergeant Michael Lindstrom supervises the person’s crimes unit. Detectives assigned to property crimes investigate Burglary, Auto Theft, and other Larceny crimes. Sergeant Scott Levy supervises the property crimes unit.

The Crimes Against Persons section of the SSPD Criminal Investigation Unit is Sergeant Mike Lindstrom. Sergeant Lindstrom joined SSPD in 2006 following his career with the Fulton County Police where he spent much of his time as a member of the Community Oriented Policing Unit in the north precinct in Sandy Springs. The property crimes unit of the Sandy Springs Criminal Investigation Unit is Sergeant Scott Levy. Sergeant Levy joined the Sandy Springs Police following his career with the Fulton County Police. He is also a member of the North Metro S.W.A.T. Team comprised of members of the Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, and Johns Creek Police Departments. He is also a member of the Futlon County Multi-Jurisdictional Burglary Task Force. He transferred to the CIU following his assignment in the SSPD Traffic Unit.
