Sandy Springs Police hope that 2012 will bring in new Neighborhood Watch Programs as part of the SSPD Community Outreach effort for 2012. Neighborhood Watch will be given a priority so that program numbers will hit the 100 mark and beyond. "We transitioned over 65 programs in 2006 and since that time we've started new programs to where we're looking at over 80 current programs that are functioning as well oiled machines." Said Community Affairs Lieutenant Steve Rose. "What we want this year is to expand into more neighborhoods as well as our condominium developments." Rose points out that crime-prevention programs in the apartment communities are developed differently. "It's a different process. Apartment residents are more transient as opposed to long-term homeowners. Part of our strategy in the apartment communities is providing knowledge and information as to what trends are current. It is more individual-based information targeting rather than group organization. Bottom line is that with more accurate information available to the residents, the more importance they place in their individual crime-prevention effort."
