Programs include Citizens Police Academy, Women's Self Defense Class, Firearms Safety Class, Residential and Business Security Evaluations and Crime Prevention Seminars for residents and businesses. Other programs include Business Watch and Construction Watch Programs.
Free gun locks and child ID kits are available in the main lobby of police headquarters. SSPD has teamed up with the Waste Management Corporation for the Waste Watch Program.
The coordinator for the crime-prevention unit is Officer Larry Jacobs. Larry is the department’s Crime Prevention Specialist and has advanced training in Crime Prevention, CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) and is certified as in International Crime Prevention Specialist.
