Crime Prevention
The Crime Prevention Unit offers many interactive and educational programs for the people of Sandy Springs. The goal is to increase awareness and knowledge so that you may decrease your chances of becoming a victim of a crime. The coordinator for the crime-prevention unit is Officer Larry Jacobs. For more information, Email Officer Larry Jacobs or call 770-551-3328.
The Community Affairs Unit is comprised of a number of programs both within and outside of the crime-prevention effort in Sandy Springs. The unit governs several programs including the Sandy Springs Police Explorers, Reserves, and Volunteers in Police Services or VIPS. Part of the VIPS Program is the Citizens on Patrol Unit which began operation in August, 2011. COPS unit members utilize a Citizen Patrol vehicle and patrol the business and residential areas of Sandy Springs, providing eyes and ears for the department. In addition, the members provide assistance at accident scenes, road hazards, safety checks and other areas that would allow patrol officers to remain in service.
