The Sandy Springs Citizen's Police Academy allows residents to participate in a close-up study of police operations in Sandy Springs by attending an 11-week course is designed to give the students an up-front look at the people, the training, and the knowledge that hits the streets in Sandy Springs every day.

Senior Officer Luis Figueroa, a native of Bayamón Puerto Rico, began his Law Enforcement career in 2005 with the Atlanta Georgia Police Department. While employed with the Atlanta Police Department Officer Figueroa served in the Uniform Patrol Division, Field Training Officer program and Field Investigation Team. Officer Figueroa joined the Sandy Springs Police Department in January 2010. He currently works in the South District Uniformed Patrol Division.


Officer Alberto Cruz was born in Mayaguez Puerto Rico but lived most of his life in Buffalo, New York. Officer Cruz served in the United State Army from 1997-2000 in Fort McPherson, Georgia. He began his Law Enforcement career in 2001 with the City of Forest Park Georgia Police Department. While employed with the Forest Park Police Officer Cruz served in the Uniform Patrol Division and a Detective in the criminal investigation division. Officer Cruz joined the Sandy Springs Police Department in July of 2008 and has been assigned to the north patrol division.
